A campaign to keep Windsor Fire Station open at night has also received support from many celebrities like Barbara Windsor MBE, Sir Cliff Richard and Natalie Imbruglia.
According to the Maidenhead Advertiser, the Royal Berkshire Fire Authority is planning to close the station from 8pm to 8am by next year.
Loosing 12 hours of fire fighting duty can have a negative impact on the area’s safety as well as Berkshire jobs at the station.
Through celebrity support the campaign ‘Help Save Windsor Fire Station’ has already gathered 5,700 campaign members on Facebook.
“It is another fantastic boost for the campaign to have a high profile actress such as Barbara Windsor backing us,” Mick Rowley, Fire Brigades Union representative for Windsor told the publication.
UK jobs in fire fighting should be protected in order to maintain a proper service across the country and this campaign shows council member how passionate the community really is.
Richard Coates wrote an article on the fire station’s website in an attempt to reason why the station should continue a 24hour service: “The proposed cuts in fire emergency response not just in Windsor but across the Berkshire Fire Authority, with further retained fire stations earmarked for closure are a serious indictment of the management of both the Fire & Rescue Service and the Fire Authority that has totally lost touch with the communities they are supposed to serve.”
