Awards ceremonies to crown the best player of the world have been organized annually since 1956, when the inaugural Ballon d’Or awarded took place. Gabriel Hanot . The Ballon d’Or was presented to the reader by Gabriel Hanot . Originally, votes could only be awarded to European players before a 1995 rule change. In the voting for the 2004 Golden Ball , Cristiano Ronaldo received his first votes, finishing in 12th with Milan Barošon 11 points. [15] One year later he received three points, [16] and in 2006 five points. [17]

The FIFA World Player of the Year was established in 1991. In the voting for the 2004 FIFA World Player of the Year , Ronaldo received his first votes, finishing 13th with 45 points. One year later received 13 points, and in 2006 he received 69 points.

The European Golden Shoe is awarded to the top goalscorer in Europe . It is awarded on a weighing system that allows players to win a lot of money. Goals scored in the top five leagues according to the UEFA coefficients rankings are multiplied by a factor of two, and goals scored in the leagues ranked six to 21 are multiplied by 1.5.

Since 1996, Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are two of only four players, along with Mário Jardel and Luis Suárez , to score 80 or more points. [74] Ronaldo is the only player to win the three-time recipient. [75] [76] By virtue of being the top scorer in Europe, Ronaldo also received the Golden Boot Premier League and the Pichichi Trophy in the respective seasons. [77] [78]

Ronaldo is the UEFA Champions League all-time top goalscorer with 105 goals while Lionel Messi is second with 94 to his name. The pair had broken each other over the course of 2015, after Messi surpassed the previous recorder, Raúl , in November 2014. [79] Ronaldo opened a gap in the 2015-16 season.
