A person with extensive knowledge of spacecraft systems, customers requirements and developing systems architectures to meet those requirements. Summary of Role:
The Head of Systems Engineering will be responsible for the line management of a team of 6 engineers and for the task allocation within the System Engineering team. The Head of Systems Engineering will be selected on the basis of their ability to organise and manage the functional team. The Head will not necessarily be the leading Systems Engineering expert, but does require a sufficient level of expertise to enable them to effectively manage the tasks of the team.
The line management of the team includes the day-to-day management of the activities of the staff and longer-term concerns such as mentoring and personal development.
Another key aspect of the role is the participation in weekly meetings with the Project Managers / Responsible Engineers to set the task and plans at team level.

Line management of team members Personal development, annual appraisals Health and welfare Administration: holidays / sickness absence Functional management Allocating tasks and monitoring progress Providing a direct interface between the team and the Project Manager, when required
Key Skills:
Personnel administration
Personnel management and mentoring
Technical leadership and direction
Organised and methodical approach to problem solving
Good communications and presentation skills, both verbal and written
Qualifications and Experience:
Educated to at least HND-level in an engineering or science discipline Broad technical knowledge within the functional discipline, but not necessarily a 'technical expert' At least five-years experience working within the high-technology, high-reliability industry At least two years experience of engineering or operational team leadership Experience of the quality processes and procedures in a high-reliability industry, preferably the space industry. Desirable Skills
Degree qualified.
Five years in Systems Engineering role, preferably in the Space, Military or Aerospace industry.
Work independently or part of a team.
Provide customer interface with regard system aspects of projects.
Provide system level support for new proposals and ongoing projects.
Space equipment background
Complementary component knowledge e.g. Filters, Mixers, LNAs would be advantageous
Willingness to take responsibility and become a key player
